about

This album, composed by Naïssam Jalal is a tribute to Syrian Revolution.
In spring of 2011, putting their lives at risk, Syrians took to the streets in a desperate cry for freedom. Their hearts were full of hope and their hands full of flowers. At first authorities responded with snipers’ bullets and then with tanks and war planes.
The slogan “Almot Wala Almazala” (“death rather than humiliation”) strongly affected me because it expressed these men and women’s willpower. For 40 years, the Syrian people have lived with their heads bowed under the weight of the dictatorship and daily humiliations. To regain their lives, they demanded to live free.
I composed this piece to honor the hundreds of thousands of men, women and children who have died under bullets or torture, those who starved, besieged by the regime and facing the world’s indifference. This is a tribute to their courage. It tells the story of the revolution that still lives in the face of adversity.
